When Kong finally returned to his home town, he was unable to continue his medical studies so he took up teaching. In his free time he went to the Cantonese Operas especially those performed by one of the leading opera singers of the time, Sit Gok-Seen. He started writing songs and plays and proposed them to Sit. His talent was soon being recognized and Sit invited him to join his opera company as playwright.
Zhan Meng-bai's father is assassinated by a mysterious archer, and his love interest is killed by the same assassin. Determined to avenge them both and discover the archer's secret, Meng-bai meets his supposedly deceased mother and many other renowned martial artists. Meanwhile, he falls in love with the daughter of the leader of the Emperor's Valley. Eventually, Meng-bai learns the identity of the archer and learns that the archer intends to die in battle with him.
The Red Flower Society infiltrates the Qing court, and Emperor Qianlong goes to Jiangnan disguised as a commoner, where he meets and takes in Kong Kong as a maid. They meet Fang Shiyu and are introduced to the leader of the Society, Han Tianchou. With the help of the White Browed Taoist and others, Han intends to overthrow the Qing dynasty, and Qianlong must investigate. Meanwhile, Muslim princess Ma Xianglei seeks Han's help to retrieve the Quran stolen by Qianlong. Xianglei and Qianlong develop mutual feelings, and so do Shiyu and Kong Kong, but they face many obstacles. Ultimately, Qianlong succeeds in dismantling the Society, but Xianglei is murdered. The culprit incites more conflict to harm Qianlong, who vows to avenge Xianglei by finding the true killer.
